NOEMA Observations of CO Emission in Arp 142 and Arp 238

چکیده

Previous studies have shown significant differences in the enhancement of star-formation rate (SFR) and efficiency (SFE=SFR/M_mol) between spiral-spiral spiral-elliptical mergers. In order to shed light on physical mechanism these differences, we present NOEMA observations molecular gas distribution kinematics (linear resolutions ~ 2kpc) two representative close major-merger star-forming pairs: pair Arp142 Arp238. The CO is widely distributed over a highly distorted disk without any nuclear concentration, an off-centric ring-like structure discovered channel maps. SFE varies significantly within Arp142, with starburst region (Region 1) near eastern tip showing ~0.3 dex above mean control sample isolated galaxies, main 4) 0.43 lower than sample. contrast, emission Arp238 detected only compact sources at galactic centers. Compared sample, Arp238-E shows more 1 whereas Arp238-W has ~0.7 dex. We suggest that extended large variation are due expanding large-scale ring triggered by recent high-speed head-on collision spiral galaxy elliptical galaxy, high SFEs associated starbursts induced gravitational tidal torques low-speed coplanar interaction.

H I and CO observations of Arp 104 : a spiral – elliptical interacting pair

We present data probing the spatial and kinematical distribution of both the atomic (H I) and molecular (CO) gas in NGC 5218, the late-type barred spiral galaxy in the spiral–elliptical interacting pair, Arp 104. We consider these data in conjunction with far-infrared and radiocontinuum data, and N-body simulations, to study the galaxies interactions, and the star formation properties of NGC 52...

Fe K emission in the ultraluminous infrared galaxy Arp 220

Prominent Fe Kα line emission is detected in the XMM-Newton spectrum of the ultraluminous infrared galaxy Arp220. The centroid of the line is found at an energy of 6.7 keV and the equivalent width of the line is EW ∼ 1.9 keV (at 3.5σ significance). A few other spectral features are found at various degrees of significance in the lower energy range on a hard 2.5–10 keV continuum (Γ ∼ 1). The lar...

High - Spatial - Resolution , near - Infrared Observations of Arp 220

High-spatial-resolution slit scans of the nucleus of Arp 220 are presented along with near-infrared photometry of the nuclear region. A single nucleus is found coincident with the strongest radio peak. The core is resolved to be on the order of 1" (370 pc) in diameter. The photometry of the central region shows a minimum near 3.7 ¡im which is inconsistent with the near-infrared source being a “...

Atomic carbon in Arp 220

We present detections of the 3 P 1 ? 3 P 0 ne-structure line of neutral carbon, and of the J = 3 ? 2 rotational line of carbon monoxide in the ultraluminous infrared galaxy Arp 220, obtained at the Caltech Submillimeter Observatory. C I emission in Arp 220 is found to be at the expected level in relation to the strong FIR dust emission and to the CO emission, whereas the C II emission seen by I...

ARP/wARP and molecular replacement.

The aim of ARP/wARP is improved automation of model building and refinement in macromolecular crystallography. Once a molecular-replacement solution has been obtained, it is often tedious to refine and rebuild the initial (search) model. ARP/wARP offers three options to automate that task to varying extents: (i) autobuilding of a completely new model based on phases calculated from the molecula...
